Soil: Broken Earth Vineyard in East Paso Robles features a diverse soil composition that significantly influences its wines. The vineyard's soils include sandy loam, which provides good drainage and root penetration, and clay loam, which retains water and adds richness to the wines. Limestone and chalk are also present, contributing to the minerality and maintaining acidity in the grapes. Alluvial deposits from ancient rivers add complexity to the soil mix, while shale influences the wines' structure. This diverse soil profile helps produce wines with a unique balance of richness, minerality, and complexity. 
Climate: East Paso Robles provides an ideal climate for white wine varietals, with hot, dry summers promoting full ripeness and cool nights preserving acidity. The significant day-to-night temperature swings ensure a balance of rich fruit flavors with crisp acidity. Limited rainfall and afternoon ocean breezes help maintain freshness and vibrant flavors in the grapes, resulting in well-balanced, expressive white wines.
Breakdown:
This wine presents a pale golden straw color with brilliant clarity and a subtle greenish hue. On the nose, it offers an aromatic bouquet of tropical fruits like pineapple, guava, and mango, interwoven with citrus notes of lemon zest and lime. Subtle hints of white flowers, fresh herbs, and a touch of minerality add complexity to the aroma. The medium-bodied palate delivers refreshing acidity, with flavors of ripe tropical fruits, green apple, and a hint of pear. The mid-palate showcases delicate minerality, a touch of honey, and a slight salinity that enhances the profile. The finish is crisp and clean, with lingering citrus and tropical fruit notes, underscored by vibrant acidity that provides a refreshing conclusion.

Breakdown: The 2022 Perluca Barbera, marking the inaugural vintage for this varietal at Perluca Wines, showcases the exceptional potential of California soils. It presents a deep ruby red hue with a vibrant sheen, inviting a nose that bursts with bright red cherries, ripe raspberries, and plum, enhanced by floral notes of violets and rose petals. Subtle hints of licorice, fresh herbs, and a touch of spice contribute depth, followed by an earthy minerality. On the palate, this medium-bodied wine strikes a lively balance between acidity and richness. Flavors of juicy red fruits like cherry, cranberry, and red currant blend seamlessly with dark chocolate, toasted almonds, and black pepper, while bright acidity provides a refreshing structural lift. The finish is long and elegant, characterized by lingering tart cherry, fine-grained tannins, and a subtle minerality, with a touch of vanilla and cedar from oak aging completing the profile.

Observations: Sourced from Happy Canyon A.V.A and the Estrella District in Paso Robles, the 2019 Ferronero has a rich, deep ruby red color with good clarity. The nose is a complex bouquet of dark cherries, blackberries, and plums, interwoven with floral notes of violet and rose. Subtle hints of tobacco, leather, and baking spices add some necessary layers. On the palate, this full-bodied blend is well-structured. The Sangiovese imparts bright cherry and cranberry notes, while the Syrah adds bold blackberry and a touch of black pepper. The Merlot contributes depth and weight, accented by nuances of new oak. Smooth tannins and flavors of dark plum and chocolate create a balanced acidity and a velvet-like texture. The finish is long and graceful, leaving a lasting impression of dark fruit, delicate tannins, and a whisper of spice and oak.

FERRO NERO 2019 (Red Blend)

Prouduced out of three different Coastal A.V.A.'s, the 2020 vintage is powerful. With 4 or 5 distinct flavors, bound together but loosly. Each flavor taking center stage while simultaniusly sharing equal stage-time. 
Dark cherries, blackberries, and plums on the nose, enhanced by floral hints of violet and rose. Subtle tobacco, leather, and baking spices add some complexity.
The wine is full-bodied and well structured, it'll age well. Sangiovese gives bright cherry and cranberry notes, the Merlot  contributes some weight and depth with its velvety texture from new oak barrels. The power comes from the Montepulciano, adding  layes of bold blackberries and dark plums. Tannins have relaxed revealing some acidity, balancing the ride.

The 2020 Perluca Sangiovese presents a rich, deep ruby red hue with excellent clarity. The nose offers an aromatic blend of dark cherries, blackberries, and plums, accompanied by floral hints of violet and rose, and nuanced with tobacco, leather, and a touch of baking spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied and well-structured, revealing a harmonious blend of Sangiovese's bright cherry and cranberry notes, bold blackberry and black pepper from Syrah, and the weight and depth of Merlot enhanced by new oak. Smooth tannins and dark plum and chocolate undertones create a balanced acidity and velvet-like texture. The finish is long and elegant, with lingering notes of dark fruit, subtle tannins, and a hint of spice and oak.

Sangiovese 2020

Solaria is made using the Italian technique of Ramato in the winery. Vino Ramato derives its name from the word "Rame", or Copper, due to its copper like color that are a result of extended skin contact. Using this technique, I took Malvasia Bianca fruit, and re-hydrated it with water. It was fermented on the skin, similarly to a red wine. The result is a low alcohol and refreshing orange wine. Solaria is smooth and has flavors of iced oranges and grapefruit.
